It's a New Year!

Each New Year as we are given what many like to consider “a fresh start,” I have to admit that my heart bursts with joy at this simple thought… A chance to analyze 2010, and figure out a way to make 2011 an even better year. For some of you, your New Year’s Resolution might be to lose weight, stop smoking, or even save money. Did you know that these are proven to be three of the most common Resolutions for Americans? Hats go off to anyone who sets one of these goals, and even more, is able to achieve it successfully. Sometimes we have these huge goals and desires for our self, yet we give in to our old habits shortly after we begin falling behind. Why is this? For many of us, the old way, is also the easy way. We decide that our weight is ok, and we will try to lose weight Next Year. We figure that we haven’t died from smoking yet, and addiction is impossible to overcome. We might even think that we survived our money situation in 2010, so what is just one more year? Excuses, Excuses, Excuses. Sure, I will be the first to admit that I am the queen of excuses when it comes to a New Year’s Resolution. Can I only set a goal for myself because it is a new year?? Absolutely not. We set goals, dreams, and desires for our self with huge hopes of improving the quality of our daily life, yet when the going gets tough, we back out. Why do you think this is? Is it our society? Our support system? Do we simply run out of time? Whatever your excuse or justification might be… I would challenge you to get rid of it! Get rid of that negativity drifting about your life and for once in your life, successfully complete a Resolution for 2011. I’m sure that when reflecting back next year, you will be glad you did!

With a new year also comes a new semester for me and thousands of other students at Texas A&M University. Each “first day back to school” I find myself feeling like a kindergartner about to start her very first day of school! I get sooo nervous! You would think that having attended school my entire life, those nervous feelings would disappear. Nope, not a chance! I am excited for new opportunities, new challenges, new joys and discomforts, and as mentioned before, a new start. A lot has changed in my life since the Christmas Holiday, and there is only one person to credit, the good Lord. I find myself standing in awe of his presence in my life. I have already been so blessed this year, and I pray that continues. In addition to setting a New Year’s Resolution, I have the desire to observe the beauty around me, be thankful for what I have been given, and give all the glory to God. I hope each of you have had nothing but a wonderful start to 2011. I wish you the best of luck this semester, and in fulfilling your New Year’s Resolution. Make this year count.

Blessings,
Macy
